Back Bay Groups Prepare for Boston Firefighters Fundraiser

Three community groups in the Back Bay have scheduled a 6 p.m. fund-raising event Monday that will benefit the Lieutenant Walsh-Firefighter Kennedy Memorial Fund, reports Boston Globe.

Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy, 33, and Lieutenant Edward J. Walsh Jr., 43, died in a nine-alarm fire in March after being trapped in the basement of a building at 298 Beacon St. in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood.

The fund-raising event at the Fairmont Copley Plaza is being organized by the Back Bay Association, the Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay, and the Newbury Street League. Mayor Martin J. Walsh will serve as honorary chair of the event, the group’s said.

“Residents and business leaders, as well as civic leaders, will come together on June 23 to demonstrate our sincere sorrow for the fallen firefighters and appreciation for the professional firefighting work conducted by Boston Fire Department personnel,” Richie Paris, head of Boston Fireghters Local 718, said in a statement.
