Six people were killed when a Metro-North Railroad train struck a vehicle on the tracks in Valhalla (NY) in Westchester County, resulting in a fiery crash, reports The New York Times.
The driver of the vehicle and five passengers on the train were killed, said a spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. At least 12 people were injured.
The train struck the vehicle, a black Jeep Cherokee, which was crossing the tracks at Commerce Street around 6:30 p.m., Mr. Donovan said. The vehicle and the front end of the train caught fire.
Passengers were evacuated through the rear of the train. About 400 of them were taken to a local rock-climbing gym for shelter.
The train pushed the car about 10 train car lengths north of the crossing.
图片from passengers on the train showed fire and smoke at the site of the crash. Television news footage showed firefighters responding to a smoking train car.
