Firefighter Training Drill: Washdowns

By Forest Reeder

Washdowns: A fairly simple part of our operations by most accounts but when you break down all of the components of a safe operation, several specific playbook discussions should be conducted to ensure that the basics stay safe. Your jurisdiction may consider this to be a hazmat response and application of your standard operating procedures will be an important part of this discussion. Traffic control, ignition source identification, and personal protective equipment levels are some of the areas you will need to discuss for this playbook page. If emulsifying agents or foam are used, discuss in detail the proportions and containment/runoff considerations.
