All EMS agencies need an infection control program to help ensure that their responders can recognize and minimize the risks that communicable diseases pose to themselves, their workplace and the community at large. Action Training Systems’ 3-title Infection Control & Prevention series provides a systematic understanding of bloodborne, airborne and other diseases of concern to emergency responders. Some of the diseases discussed in the series include hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), tuberculosis (TB) and methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
These programs demonstrate how to minimize or prevent the spread of diseases through proper precautions and infection control practices, and how to mitigate an exposure to communicable diseases.
Action Training System is a CECBEMS-accredited organization. ATS has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in EMS continuing education. All online, EMS interactive courses are CECBEMS approved for one continuing education hour CEH. Content is based on standards and recommendations from OSHA, an agency of the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Additional sources include the National Institutes of Health, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA®) and the U.S. Fire Administration.
