Another tactic is to put the fork of the Halligan on the track and twist the track. Do it on both sides. With fire like this don't worry about doing damage-worry about us. If the spring fails the door will come down fast and with great momentum.

Like Brother Berg stated.. If you go through it....Wedge it...

Make the time to take the time

If I recall from seeing this great and nearly tragic video, the tones dumping for the additional alarm set off the electric door opener because of the frequency. It sounds nuts, but I've heard that a couple of times. The vice grips work great, and another good means, is taking a metal hinge chock (angle iron w/ hook) and placing that in the track at the notches that are stamped out. I routinely use that type of chock for those types of roll up doors. To emphasize..........every door should be opened/controlled when brothers are operating "inside the box".

I "preach" the virtues of Vise Grip plyers for just such an incident. A pair locked onto the door track right under the lowest roller when the door is open, will usually hold the door open. One other issue to be aware of, is the possibility of a backdrft in the space between the open door and the garage ceiling. Don't forget to "hit" that area with your stream before you enter a garage involved in fire. A shot from an 1&3/4 inch hose with a streight tip, from the outside into the oening between the open door and the door header, will usually cool the overhead down enough to eliminat a backdraft or flashover.

Taking a each secound can save your life. Locking pliers work well or you can use a pike pole in the track and pull the door on it to create tension. Be Safe

Frank, I had seen this video before. We had a house fire last Dec in which the situation was similar. I was about to take a crew in thru the garage when I remembered the door & went back & put a set of locking pliers on the track to prevent just what we see in this video. Great reminder of a simple solution to this potential problem.

I have seen this happen at a Training burn many years ago. Very Scary stuff. Great Reminder Frank.
