According to nwitimes.com, firefighters made entry to the home only to find flames engulfing the rear of the house. The unidentified resident’s body was found at 6:30 p.m. in the building’s basement.

The home’s roof caved into the floor, and the floor caved into the basement, making search operations difficult, the report said. A hydrant and fire truck froze during operations.

According to Olk, the temperature in the area was 20 below zero with a wind chill factor of 50 below. Firefighters in Chicago and other parts of the Midwest have had to contend with excruciatingly cold temperatures while operating of lateas “polar vortex” conditionssweep throught the region.
