A number of years ago, while working a fire at a residential structure as a member of the Taunton Fire Company in Medford (NJ), I was the apparatus operator of an engine with hoselines working the fire. An earlier snowfall had left about six inches of snow on the ground and the temperature was about 30°F. The water runoff from the working hoselines was about six inches deep where I was standing at the pump panel. Ice was forming on the ground under my feet, making it very slippery. Inside my boots my feet were getting very cold.
